OpenSSO Integration can be obtrained from here,

Product Description:
"NYU has integrated PDS with Sun's OpenSSO Identity Management application. The PDS/OpenSSO integration uses PDS as the NYU Libraries' single sign-on system and leverages NYU's OpenSSO system to provide seamless interaction between library applications and university services. The integration merges patron information from OpenSSO (e.g. name, email, e-resources access) with patron information from Aleph (e.g. borrower status and type) to ensure access to the multitude of library services."

"The NYU Libraries operate in a consortial environment in which not all users are in OpenSSO and not all OpenSSO users are in Aleph. PDS is hosted in an active/passive capacity on our Primo front-end servers. Due to the nature of PDS and Aleph, patrons are required to have an Aleph account in order to login to the library's SSO environment. The exception to this rule is EZProxy."

Introduction Details

(1) Vendor & Product Description:

Vendor:

Ping Identity

Product & Vulnerable Versions:
PingFederate
6.10.1

Vendor URL & Download:
PingFederate 6.10.1  can be gained from here,
http://documentation.pingidentity.com/display/PF66/Service+Provider+Integration

Product Introduction Overview:
"An SP is the consumer of identity attributes provided by the IdP through a SAML assertion. SP integration involves passing the identity attributes from PingFederate to the target SP application. The SP application uses this information to set a valid session or other security context for the user represented by the identity attributes. Session creation can involve a number of approaches, and as for the IdP, Ping Identity offers commercial integration kits that address the various SP scenarios. Most SP scenarios involve custom-application integration, server-agent integration, integration with an IdM product, or integration with a commercial application.

Custom Applications: many applications use their own authentication mechanisms, typically through a database or LDAP repository, and are responsible for their own user-session management. Custom-application integration is necessary when there is limited or no access to the Web or application server hosting the application. Integration with these custom applications is handled through application-level integration kits, which allow software developers to integrate their applications with a PingFederate server acting as an SP.

With these integration kits, PingFederate sends the identity attributes from the SAML assertion to the SP application, which can then use them for its own authentication and session management. As for the IdP, application-specific integration kits include an SP agent, which resides with the SP application and provides a simple programming interface to extract the identity attributes sent from the PingFederate server. The information can be used to start a session for the SP application.

Ping Identity provides custom-application integration kits for a variety of programming environments, including: Java, .NET, PHP.

In addition, Ping Identity provides an Agentless Integration Kit, which allows developers to use direct HTTP calls to the PingFederate server to temporarily store and retrieve user attributes securely, eliminating the need for an agent interface."

(2) Vulnerability Details:
PingFederate 6.10.1 SP Endpoints web application has a computer security bug problem. It can be exploited by Unvalidated Redirects and Forwards (URL Redirection) attacks. This could allow a user to create a specially crafted URL, that if clicked, would redirect a victim from the intended legitimate web site to an arbitrary web site of the attacker's choosing. Such attacks are useful as the crafted URL initially appear to be a web page of a trusted site. This could be leveraged to direct an unsuspecting user to a web page containing attacks that target client side software such as a web browser or document rendering programs.

Other similar products 0day vulnerabilities have been found by some other bug hunter researchers before. PingFederate has patched some of them. Web Security Watch is an aggregator of security reports coming from various sources. It aims to provide a single point of tracking for all publicly disclosed security issues that matter. "Its unique tagging system enables you to see a relevant set of tags associated with each security alert for a quick overview of the affected products. What's more, you can now subscribe to an RSS feed containing the specific tags that you are interested in - you will then only receive alerts related to those tags." It has published suggestions, advisories, solutions details related to website vulnerabilities.

(2.1) The security programming code flaw occurs at  “&TargetResource” parameter in “/startSSO.ping?” page.

Vigilantes testing security of IT systems

SINGAPORE: Call them cybersecurity vigilantes if you will, or “white hats” - as they are known in the hacking world.

Mr Wang Jing and Mr Zhao Hainan are part of a growing group of individuals who are taking it upon themselves to test the security of information systems in organisations and report security flaws.
Earlier this month, Mr Zhao, 26, a National University of Singapore computer science postgraduate student, managed to hack into M1’s pre-order site for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus to access personal data, including phone and NRIC numbers, as well as home addresses of the telco’s customers. He then alerted the company.
M1, which temporarily suspended all pre-orders to carry out an investigation, said it appreciated the fact that Mr Zhao, who was not identified in previous media reports, had taken the time to inform the firm about the potential security flaw and would not be taking any action against him.
Speaking to TODAY, Mr Zhao, a Singapore permanent resident, said his interest in hacking began after he had taken a module on website security. He added that he makes sure he does not break any laws and would report any vulnerabilities he discovered to website owners.
“I want to make the Internet a safer place. So, over the years, I will try to hack (into) a website when I feel interested in (it) … I also do it out of curiosity,” he said.

For Mr Wang, who is pursuing a PhD in mathematics at Nanyang Technological University’s School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, testing websites for vulnerabilities is a hobby he started early this year.
After reading up on computer security, he tested some well-known social networking sites, as well as websites of banks here and other popular Singapore-based sites.
“I believe making the Web more secure is beneficial to users … I am happy to do something that is useful,” said Mr Wang, who is in his 20s.

Apart from individuals, there are also groups of cybersecurity watchdogs, including the 400-member Singapore Security Meetup Group.
Led by Infotect Security managing director Wong Onn Chee, the informal group comprises cybersecurity experts. They do not do penetration testing of websites, as this could potentially run afoul of laws if it is unauthorised.
Mr Wong said the group members have informed organisations when they came across websites using technology or carrying out transactions that were highly suspected to be vulnerable.
Mr Anthony Lim, a member of the Application Security Advisory Board at ISC2, a not-for-profit association for information security professionals, cautioned against individuals performing “ethical hacking”.
“We don’t want anonymous ‘superhero-wannabe’ types … running around loose in cyberspace trying to do good by quietly hacking into your system without your prior knowledge and approval … even if they don’t cause any damage or steal any data,” he said.
